Woke up on Friday morning with a blinking COLD SORE on my upper lip. The irritation of that coupled with PMS caused me to ransack my whole room for a tube of Zovirax. And by ransack I mean throwing all the items in the drawers and shelves all over the floor in a tantrum. Damn tube was no where to be found.
Vanity being a priority, I sported a cap and rushed to the Curve. Grabbed a bite at O’Briens first then went to several pharmacies because either the pharmacist was not there or it wasn’t a pharmacy (how am I supposed to know that not all Guardians and Watsons are pharmacies??? Can’t they just standardize it all???). Finally found a pharmacy that was a pharmacy and had a pharmacist. I asked for Zovirax and he pointed at his lip. I nodded but really wanted to say, “Obviously you nimrod! What do you think I’m going to do with it?! Use it as nail polish remover?!”
If you are so unfortunate to get cold sores like me, Zovirax is the best. But be warned, a tinyyyyyyyyyyyyy tube costs RM35! It’s a pathetic 5cm tube (I measured!) and only contains 2g. Damn GlaxoSmithKline. They know vain people like me would pay whatever price for it.
My sister, BIL, and Rayn came over to ‘return’ my mother for the weekend. Caught me off guard because it was a day earlier than usual. I scowled at my sister and BIL because they didn’t give me the heads-up that they were bringing her back early. I hadn’t cleaned the house yet as I was going to do it the next morning before she would have usually come home. And since I got busted, I got nag, nag, nag, nag, nag, nag, nag, nag, nag, all weekend. If you know my mother, you would know how she obsesses over the tiniest spec of dust. So no matter what cleaning I do anyway, it would never be up to her par. In fact, her own cleaning par is not up to her par. It’s just never clean enough.
Mark and a few others went to check out that new German pub at the Curve. Self-consciousness over my cold sore kept me home on a Friday night. Yawn.
Saturday was my first absolutely free Saturday in a long time. All my classes had been cancelled for one reason or another. Every Saturday, I’m confined to the space of my studio, envious of what other people are doing on lovely Saturday afternoons. So this Saturday I was thrilled that I was free to do what ‘normal’ people do on Saturday afternoons! Here’s what I discovered: ‘Normal’ people do jack-all on Saturday afternoons! I was bored out of my mind!
Finally met up with Rouvin and Joanna at Amcorp Mall later in the evening. Rouvin is going to work in Singapore so it was just a quick catch-up before he left. More and more people seem to be crossing the border to work.
Mell joined us later on, did some Raya shopping, then the both of us went to church for mass. Headed to the Curve for a long night of… well, not much really. We started with the flea market, then went to Ikea, then went to Ikano for dinner. Becks joined us after dinner. With no Saturday night plans, we decided to watch Hairspray. Went to Cineleisure to buy tickets only to discover that Hairspray wasn’t screening at Cineleisure. Again with no plans, we decided to try our luck at One Utama. Mell headed there to buy the tickets while Becks and I went back to my place to get some pashminas and jackets for the movie. Traffic was horrendous for some reason. Mell kept calling us with traffic reports. She finally got into the carpark after much hassle but gave up on the parking because it was too messy so she exited. By this time, Becks and I had already gotten all the stuff and were heading to One Utama.
We gave up on trying to do anything remotely exciting . Went to McDonalds at Center Point and cheered ourselves up with fries, apple pie, and McFlurry. Then Mell left so Becks and I went to meet Kerry and a guy friend of hers at a mamak near her place. That was my Saturday. Very unexciting to say the least.
During class on Sunday, I finally understood why people call it ‘the runs’. Because you really RUN! Told my students to practice while I ran to the loo. What the heck did I eat??? 10 minutes before class was supposed to end, my stomach started acting up again. But I told myself I was going to hold it for another 10 minutes. When class was over, I walked my students out, locked the grill, and RANNNNNN! I sms-ed Mell to ask if she was alright and she said she was fine. Whatever it was that I ate, it caused a whole day of massive discomfort.
Had dinner at Hartamas Square after a very long day of classes then followed Becks to deliver boxes of cookies for her mother to somewhere in Jelatek. Met Kerry and another guy friend at Strawberry Fields for a drink after that. 2 days. 2 different guys. I’m starting to doubt which way she swings :)
There’s a local musical coming up called Rose, Rose, I Love You. It’s a story inspired by Rose Chan – The Legendary Cabaret Queen of Malaya. The cast came over to the studio on Monday night for rehearsals.

Lyck is the Assistant Stage Manager. I was warned by Becky (who is a seasoned ASM) not to disturb her. In fact, her instructions were not to even SPEAK to her. Did I listen? Of course not! I lured Lyck to play Ping Pong with me and even whisked her away for dinner.
My little TV stint was supposed to be aired on NTV7 that night but it was postponed for the second week in a row. Hopefully it’ll be aired next week.
Boyfriend and I met Imou for supper before heading home.
Had Latin American class on Tuesday, then went for dinner downstairs, then boyfriend and I went to One Utama to meet Puva and Anusha for a movie. Puva is a big fan of foreign movies so he convinced us to go for this one. We were a bit hesitant at first but I was sold when he told me it was directed by Ang Lee and has won an award.
It’s a Chinese movie called Sè, Jiè (色,戒) which in English means Lust, Caution. The movie was set in Shanghai during the World War II era. Apparently some of the shots were shot in Ipoh, Malaysia! The first half of it was really confusing cause it was Shanghainese so we had to read the subtitles. Unfortunately, the subtitles were cut in half cause it fell below the screen. They rectified the problem half way through the movie but by that time we sorta got the hang of just understanding what was going on without the subtitles. Lots of explicit scenes (15 minutes worth!) were cut out which slightly affected the outcome. Never the less, I’m glad Puva convinced us to go. It was really good. Go watch it.
Had dinner at South Pac on Wednesday with Becks then we went to Jarrod and Rawlins in Damansara Heights to meet Adam, Puva, Anu, her cousin and friend. Anu entertained us with animated stories of demanding patients and dreadful senior doctors.
Becks and I then went to Devi’s Corner in Bangsar with Lyck then we sent Lyck back to her temporary hideout. It’s so retro! Very artsy. Very cool. Too bad she has to move out in a month.
Had to come to the studio early today cause Ken needed to loan some stuff for some exhibition. Have been here all day for classes and rehearsals. I’m sitting here typing this while listening to them sing and dance. It’s starting to bug me. I’ve got a feeling I’m going to be humming this song when I get home. Not because I like it. Because it’s drilled into my head.
Lyck and Kathy just went from speaking English to Cantonese to Malay. I just barked at them for not sticking to one language.
Oooo… I’m getting cranky.
It’s 11.20pm. I hope they end rehearsal soon.
I’m supposed to meet Mell and Jo at A&W in PJ after this but if rehearsal doesn’t end soon then I doubt I’ll get to join them.
Ok. I’m going to shut down and start packing my things. Maybe they’ll get the hint!
Oh God… someone just said “Can we start from the top again?”
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Song of the day: All That Jazz (Chicago)

14 According to You:
Sweetheart I think no one had said anything yet because of the paragraph about you having the runs we had to read. A good case of TMI!!
Kakakakka! Actually I think everyone is enjoying a long weekend Hari Raya break. Many companies gave Friday off and Monday is a public holiday. So 4 glorious days of eating Rendang and Lemang! Even I've barely turned on my PC.
You're really lucky to have a hyphen in your name. I wish I had one in mine.
Anyway, Happy Raya 2 you & your family, especially baby Rayn!
Love,
Sharmila-Juliet John
Not really. Malaysians don't seem to understand hyphen. It has been dropped in some of my documents (like my IC!) and it's there in others. So now I don't know whether to use it or not. Very confusing. Thinking of just dropping it all together to make life easier.
I dropped the hyphen... life and form-filling has been much easier since...
you mean the hyphen is part of your name??!!
errr... Fi... stalker alert... heh... heh... heh...
Yeah I know. Now I'm just including the hyphen in all my forms. If they want to include it, they can. If they want to leave it out, it's no skin off my back.
YES MO!!! You think I would simply include a hyphen in between Fiona-Jane for fun???
I'm not syiok sendiri like your friend Sharmila-Juliet who just gave herself a hyphen.
:P
Stalker??? Where??? Where???
*runs and hides*
Hahaha!! Syiok sendiri!! I haven't heard that in ages!! Eh but seriously, I think the hyphen's cool! Wish my parents' had given me a hyphen.
Eh noooo....Actually come to think about it, I wish they had given me an underscore! Hahhahahahaha!!! Now THAT would be cool! Hehehe...
Sharmila_Juliet John.
So would you actually reccommend watching Lust in the cinema or should we just get the DVD?
That would be sasau not cool! Underscore??! Haha! Then again, people are naming their kids .com and stupid things like that.
I say watch at home. Too much was censored from the big screen. Too many important parts too.
